In order to consider each Fellow’s specific situation, the financial conditions for a stay at the IAS-Nantes are settled on a case-by-case basis. The following principles apply when negotiating an agreement:
- If the Fellow belongs to a University, he/she must first seek a financial support he/she would be eligible to from his/her university, considering that the home institution would fully benefit from the research work led during the Fellowship and from the newly formed network.
- When appropriate, the IAS-Nantes will provide the Fellow with compensation to help maintain the Fellows’ standards of living. This compensation takes into account losses in earnings, but also the difference between the standards of living between the home country and France. The amount of the compensation is determined by the income received by a scholar in France with a similar level and seniority.
When a University commits to maintaining the Fellows’ entire income in exchange of a partial compensation from the IAS-Nantes, the Institute can establish an agreement with the university to pay directly the agreed compensation to the latter.
