Financial conditions

The Institute for Advanced Studies of Nantes is a public utility organization that ensures overall individual and collective balance in terms of resources and living standards within each cohort of resident researchers welcomed.

The financial conditions of a resident researcher’s stay at the Institute are defined on a case-by-case basis to better take into account each individual’s particular situation in this context.

Every candidate for a residency must first seek support from their home institution and/or other organizations for any financial support they may be eligible for.

Two options can be mobilized

-          Payment of a monthly allowance

The resident researcher receives a monthly allowance. Its amount is calculated taking into account various factors, particularly the decrease in resources (or the need) potentially caused by the residency. It is capped at 2500 euros per month (for the 2025-2026 cohort).

The allowance is paid in the form of a Per Diem, or as an employment contract when the resident researcher is self-employed.

-         Establishment of a delegation

In the case of a stay where the resident researcher is affiliated with an institution and that institution fully maintains their salary during the research residency while releasing them from their obligations during the residency period, it is possible, although not mandatory, to establish a delegation agreement. In this case, the Home University and the Institute agree on the amount that will be paid by the Institute to the University. A delegation agreement cannot be combined with the payment of a monthly allowance, and its amount is capped.

Some clarifications

These elements are subject to variations and adaptations depending on the different support and assistance programs potentially associated with the residency (FIAS, ILO, SEFRI, Chairs, etc.).

Charges related to the provision of accommodation and the cost of weekly meals may be deducted monthly from the resources paid to the resident researcher.
