About:

"What is a woman?" This question, stated by Simone de Beauvoir in 1949 at the opening of Le Deuxième sexe, is still being asked acutely almost seventy-five years later. In fact, it’s a particularly divisive issue. In recent times, the question has arisen in the sporting world as well as in a militant context, with controversy crystallizing around the place given (or not) to transgender women among sportswomen or among the victims of feminicide, thus questioning the process of categorizing men/women...

Patricia Lemarchand is a pneumologist and Professor of Cell Biology, specializing in biotherapies, at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Nantes. She has published numerous studies on cell therapy and gene therapy for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. She is director of the Structure Fédérative de Recherche en Santé de Nantes, which federates research laboratories and platforms dedicated to biology-health research on the Nantes site. She is also interested in gender inequalities in access to medical care.
