Béné Meillon - Sea More Blue

Catégorie Retour sur...

Béné Meillon’s text introduces “blue ecocriticism,” an extension of traditional ecocriticism that incorporates the ocean and marine life into the study of the relationship between literature and the environment. This still largely unexplored approach invites us to “blue” our imaginaries by highlighting the vital role of the ocean—which covers 71% of the Earth—and by renewing our perspective on aquatic worlds.

The Sea More Blue program, launched at the University of Angers, aims to interdisciplinarily study literary and artistic works that engage scientific knowledge, myths, and sensory experiences surrounding marine environments. This oceanic turn responds to current environmental challenges by proposing a new ecological ethic attentive to the diverse forms of marine life and their cultural representation.
