Rethinking the Geopolitics of the Anthropocene
The conference “New Geopolitics of the Anthropocene” invites participants to explore the tensions, transformations, and reconfigurations brought about by humanity’s entry into an era where human activities profoundly reshape planetary balances.
This major debate will bring together:
- Michel Lussault, Geographer – École normale supérieure de Lyon
- Isabelle Michallet, Jurist – University of Rennes
- Verónica Calvo Valenzuela, Political Scientist, holder of the 2025–2026 Chair “Inhabiting within Planetary Boundaries” – Institute for Advanced Study in Nantes, Nantes Regional Urban Planning Agency, Nantes National School of Architecture, and SCE-KERAN
- Nathanaël Wallenhorst, Political Scientist – Catholic University of the West
Through their intersecting perspectives, the speakers will examine new configurations of power and responsibility in the context of the global ecological crisis: conflicts over resources and land use, ecological activism, rights for nature, critiques of agro-industry and ecocide, as well as the massive displacement of populations facing the impacts of climate change.
An essential conversation for rethinking the relationships between humans, territories, and living environments.
A Debate at the Heart of Les Mondiales de Nantes
This major debate is part of the Les Mondiales de Nantes festival, conceived by the online journal AOC and Le Lieu Unique. The event offers a living chronicle of international current affairs through some fifteen discussions and round tables. Over the course of two days, around forty artists, journalists, political leaders, and academics will engage with the public on major contemporary issues: wars, digital transformations, the Anthropocene condition, global trade, and the circulation of ideas and cultures.
A space for collective reflection on a changing world, where the conference on the New Geopolitics of the Anthropocene will stand out as a key moment of thought and dialogue.
