Missions

Director of the Institute since July 2025, I previously served as Deputy Director during the 2024–2025 academic year. I contribute to the development of the Institute’s scientific project and its priority thematic areas, as well as to welcoming cohorts of resident researchers. My responsibilities also include designing and evolving residency formats, developing new partnerships, and fostering exchanges and collaborations with researchers and institutions at the local level, as well as with the national and international networks in which the Institute is involved.

Sophie is currently on secondment from her home institution, the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

Career

Holding a PhD in Art History from University College London, I specialize in contemporary artistic creation in South America. My research has explored the body, skin, and gender in Chilean and Argentine art, as well as the representation of motherhood and its dialogue with new feminisms in Chile. My current work focuses on developing an ethics of looking in Chilean eco-artistic practices, along with the intersections between artistic methodologies, territory, and climate change. I was a Fellow at the Institute in 2022–2023.

Interests

Passionate about the beautiful and the good, I enjoy discovering new places, whether cultural or culinary. I also find balance through yoga, cycling, and hiking, both alone and with my family.
