"Rising geopolitical tensions threatening multilateralism—coupled with the electoral victories of figures and political movements often labeled as populist, and the proclaimed advent of a “post-truth era” fueled by certain media dynamics—are raising deep concerns within the scientific community. Researchers working on socio-ecological challenges are particularly affected, as these trends often coincide with a sidelining of environmental issues in political agendas and public debate, and even hostility toward whistleblowers addressing these topics. Raising awareness and convincing others of the urgent need for action in the face of climate and ecological crises is becoming increasingly difficult.

The 2025 Rencontres will focus on these socio- and geopolitical tensions."
