Round table with Nicolas Bouleau, Giuseppe Longo et Alessandro Sarti

Tuesday 14th February, at 6pm  at the  Simone Weil Amphitheater.

A dialogue between methods: from physics and mathematics to legacy systems and living organisms

by N. Bouleau, G. Longo and A. Sarti

Waves of equations and data now fuel humanist approaches. Biology too has become fascinated with computational methods, in the same way that economic stability is governed by equations. For two half days, on Wednesday and Thursday, mathematicians and physicists will discuss the relevance of these tools which are so familiar to them, outside the interpretations and uses for which they were invented. The aim of this Tuesday’s seminar is to introduce the analysis which will be examined in more detail over the following two days, opening up a constructive dialogue with humanists, historians and lawyers.

With

Nicolas Bouleau mathematician, Ecole des Ponts Paris-Tech.

Giuseppe Longo mathematician, CNRS-Ens, Paris et Biology Dept., Tufts U., Boston.

Alessandro Sarti mathematician, CNRS – EHESS, Paris.

This lecture is the introduction to the workshop "Mathematical models and previsions, use and abuse in natural and human sciences" taking place on wednesday, 15th and Thursday, 16th February at the IAS-Nantes.
