"For over twenty years we draw the lines of a crisis in humanities publishing: declining circulation, desertion of students, scarcity of "great masters", competition of the Web... we don’t lack reasons for concern. Yet in this dark landscape, editorial activity remains intense, inventive and dynamic. What are the new faces of the edition of the humanities today? How general publishers, university editorss and "small" independent publishers face the new situation: changes in reading practices, changes in research, the rise of digital books? "

Monique Labrune led the Humanities departments of Flammarion editions from 1996 to 2003 and of Seuil editions from 2003 to 2011.
She is now editorial director of Presses Universitaires de France.
