Sanjay Subrahmanyan is an Indian historian. He obtained his PhD in 1987 at the Delhi School of Economics, where he started his carreer as assistant professor and professor of economic history and comparative economic developement. In 1995, he joined the Ecoles des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris, and was appointed in 2002 as the holder of the Chair in Indian History and Culture at the University of Oxford.


Since 2004, Sanjay Subrahmanyan is Professor and Doshi Chair of Indian History at UCLA. He was elected at Collège de France in 2013, holding the Chair of Early Modern Global History.
