"Au gré du fleuve" (Shitao, dit "Citrouille amère", XVIIe siècle)

The contribution of the Institute doesn’t lay in the publication itself but much before.

Fellows’ individual projects are carried out in an environment where he/she is forced to face new questioning. Everything converges to trigger such reflections : the place itself, the freedom given to researchers in their agendas, the request for residency and attendance, the three meals shared with the other Fellows every week, as well as the only two formal exchanges : weekly seminar and monthly public lectures. Seminars are meant to be attended only by Fellows and to allow them presenting and discussing alternately some of their current work.

IAS-Nantes is more of a place where conversations foster innovative approaches than a place where Fellows would be under pressure to publish. Though, a monitoring of publications five years after the fellowship would give an opportunity to assess the specific contribution of a stay at IAS-Nantes in one’s publication.
